Composition Techniques & Guidelines


While we are composing I wanted to give you all a list of what is required of your final copy and also a few examples of the techniques that we've been learning in class. Remember - have fun with it and think out of the box . . . it's your composition!!! The final composition will be due the last class in February, so we still have lots of time :)

Composition Guidelines
All compositions must have a TITLE
Computer generated compositions must have original in child's hand-writing attached
Child must print their own name on composition
Each composition must have teacher's name, provinces and MYC Level.

Sunshine 1
Minimum 4 bars, 1 hand or could be divided between the hands
May be on the staff, may be critters
May be shapes to indicated direction
Must include pitch (notes) and rhythm
No bridges
Must indicate dynamics

Sunshine 2 & Sunbeams 1
Minimum 4 bars, 1 hand leading to the other or melody with bridges
Must be written on the staff
Indicate tempo (i.e. fast, slow and dynamcis)

Moonbeams 1 & Sunbeams 2
Minimum 4 bars, hands together (use no more than 1 great big whole rest)
To be written with chords or single notes in each clef
Must be written on the staff
Indicate tempo, dynamics

Sunbeams 3
Minimum 8 bars, hands together
To be written with chord, single notes or chords
Indicate tempo, dynamics & phrasing
